I first posted my review for this one in April but since it's Kimberley's release day today i wanted to repost this for all of you!
The author is awesome and we've become acquainted over the course of the past few months (I've even been able to give some cajun-french word suggestions! Ayeee!)
My Thoughts and Review:
Let me start off by saying WOW! This was a fantastic Middle-Grade read! If Kimberley wasn't raised in our bayou towns, then she sure did her research!
This was a well written heart-touching story. We follow Livie throughout the story as she has to deal with tough problems due to a tragedy and learn to believe in herself. It was a sad tale at times with an uplifting message.
The characters were a fine representation of bayou kids growing up. (and so were the adults) The book rings true to life down here, so I zoomed through it and will be recommending this to local libraries and anywhere else I can get to. I really have nothing but great things to say about this one!
I have to say the "The Healing Spell" was one of the best representations of Cajun life that I've read in a long time. Her dialog (IMO) was spot on. The little details and stories told by the people (which are such an important part of the book) sounded like they could have come out of the mouths of life-long bayou residents.
To Kim I say, AYEEEEEE!!
This gets two thumbs up and five stars! And yes, there are more books in the works which I can't wait to read. I hope the best of success for Kimberley with these!
About The Book:
Twelve-year-old Livie is living with a secret and it's crushing her. She knows she is responsible for her mother's coma, but she can't tell anyone. It's up to her to find a way to wake her momma up.
Stuck in the middle of three sisters, hiding a forbidden pet alligator, and afraid to disappoint her daddy, whom she loves more than anyone else, Livie struggles to find her place within her own family as she learns about the powers of faith and redemption. Livie's powerful, emotional, and sometimes humorous story will stay with readers long after the last line is read.
Set in the lush bayou of Louisiana, Kimberley Griffiths Little brings Livie's story to life with power and grace.
